Dear Intel Community,

I am slowly getting desperate, maybe someone here can help me...

since I have upgraded my Lenovo T420s to Windows 8.1 my graphics performance is pretty bad. It is not noticeable in normal desktop mode but in some situations the problem gets visible: scrolling in Internet Explorer or Flash content is slightly stuttering and even worse: HD video conferences on all clients I have installed (Microsoft Lync 2013, Cisco Jabber, Acano Client) is almost unusable. It works for about one minute and then my CPU usage goes to 100%,

I then tried to upgrade the driver from 3347 to recent 3517 and since then my Lync 2013 client doesn't start at all - it stucks at "starting". After a quick search I found that others have the same issue with this driver version: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/lync/en-US/e8268935-e97c-4033-9a2e-02734b4390bf/lync-2013-client-on-windows-81-stuck-at-starting?forum=ocsclients Lync 2013 Client on Windows 8.1 stuck at "starting"

In the meanwhile I reinstalled Windows 8.1 from scratch but both problems remain. To be clear, it worked wonderfully on Windows 8.

I am working in the video conference business and need to make HD video calls every day from my laptop, help would be much appreciated!

Best regards

Alex

Hello Alex, I am sorry to hear you are having problems with your system and the graphics driver V3517.

Would you please check the following URL?

Hi Sylvia,

thanks for driving this issue to the developer. Lync works without installing intel graphic drivers and also with version 3347 installed. Just the recent 3517 is causing problems.

Not sure how to attach files others than pictures and movies, so please your requested reports here: (I made it with both driver versions)

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6212412/sysinfo_3347.txt https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6212412/sysinfo_3347.txt

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6212412/sysinfo-3517.txt https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6212412/sysinfo-3517.txt

Best regards,

Alex

Alex, thanks for the information.

I was trying to find a previous graphics driver version for you to test but it is not available any more.

Then, I looked at Lenovo's website for a graphics driver and I found only the Monitor INF file.

If for any chance you have the original CD that came with your laptop, you can try to install the drivers from there and check if the behavior persists.

In the mean time, I'm going to check with the Graphics team if they have heard or noticed this problem when using these drivers versions.

Hi Sylvia,

there are no drivers for Windows 8.1 on the original CD so I just can choose between 3347 (bad performance) and 3517 (Lync is not starting).

Hopefully the Graphics team is able to fix the problem in the next version...

Hi Sylvia,

I am using a 3-Screen setup where the middle screen is connected to the Intel Graphics and the both other screens are connected to the nvidia. The internal laptop monitor isn't used at all when docked. I also have the newest nvidia driver installed. This doesn't help, unfortunately.

But even when I am using the laptop non-docked (so just the internal monitor is active and the nvidia card "sleeps") I have the same issue.

I found another workaround: When I force Lync to always use the nvidia graphics, it is starting. But this drains much battery. At the moment I downgraded the Intel driver to .3347 which gives a bad performance but at least everything is working.

Sylvia, do you have any idea when a new driver will be released? Is it rather 4 weeks or rather 4 months? Just to get a bit of a feeling.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure when they are going to release new drivers for the HD 3000. I'm going to check if there is any information about that.

Guys, I just received the confirmation from the engineering team saying that we have no current plans to release another graphics driver for the

"Sandybridge" HD Graphics 3000/2000 series.

I suggest you to make sure to get all the latest drivers for all the devices you are using, and the latest Operating System updates.
