Dithering and Color Depth

Couple questions about dithering and color depth. Most laptops have a 6 bit lcd panel so are unable to represent 16.7 million colors like a true 8 bit lcd panel can. From what I understand, some sort of dithering is used to fool our eyes to seeing colors that are not there in the 6 bit panel.

Will changing the Color Depth in the Windows 7 Intel HD Graphics Properties from 32-bit to 16-bit disable the dithering done by the Intel driver?

What method of Dithering do the Windows 7 Intel HD Graphics drivers use?
