Windows 8.1 Intel Graphics HD 4000 Update BSOD during Install

I'm trying to install the latest update for Windows 8.1:

Intel Corporation - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3 - Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000

Unfortunately, during install I get the Blue Screen Of Death with this error:

ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY

I tried researching through the event logs but am not versed enough to know what to look for. Currently within Device Manager, the display adapter is showing as Microsoft Basic Display Driver. I've tried uninstalling this driver before the install and installing the driver in safe mode all with the same results. For reference I have the following system:

HP Envy DV7T-7300 Laptop running Windows 8.1 64-bit

16GB Memory

2.4GHz Intel i7-3630QM

Hi Downtap,

Can you provide a copy of your dxdiag please? (Start -> Run -> Dxdiag -> Save All Information) Also, the Microsoft Basic Display Driver is not something that can be uninstalled - it is the very basic driver that is packaged with the OS.

If you post your dxdiag I will take a look.

Thanks for that info Downtap. One other thing real quick; the full system model # of your laptop, can you provide it? Right now I have HP ENVY DV7-7300, but is it a 7310x, or a 7358ca?

Ok that works. The current BIOS version you have is F22, which is about 3 versions out of date. One of the fixes they implemented was for memory stability back in February. A lot of BSOD's are attributed to memory issues, so this might be related to your BSOD. That being said, I would recommend updating to the version I linked above - and then trying the driver install again.

I know you're dealing with a ton of issues with this Windows 8.1 update, but I just wanted to give you an update on what I've encountered.

I've tried restarting into safe mode, and then using the manual installation method as specified on another thread.

I'm able to actually install the driver, which I'm not able to do through the update. However, upon restart, I get the same BSOD screen before receiving the login prompt for windows. Due to this, I'm forced to restart into safe mode and uninstall the driver in order to access windows again.

Can I get any update on this? I'm starting to get very frustrated with everything. I can't install the driver, therefore I can't use secondary monitors, etc. Its a fairly new laptop and didn't have these driver issues before 8.1. It sounds like my only solution is to format and go back to 8.
