Hi guys & gals,

This is driving me up the wall.. whenever I connect an external display to my laptop via the HDMI port to use them both in extended dual monitor mode the internal display on the laptop goes dim and the brightness control doesn't work.. the only solution I've been able to find is if I go into the device manager and change the driver for the display adapter from the Intel HD Graphics 4000 current driver, to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, this fixes the brightness on the lap but in order to get the picture back on the external monitor I have to go back to the Intel HD graphics 4000 driver.. this works but I unhook my laptop for school and work daily so this is a pain in the you know what.. and yes I've disabled the adaptive brightness in the power options, didn't help.. PLEASE HELP - see stats below.

Tried 3 Intel drivers, 10.18.10.4252, 10.18.10.4276, & currently 15.33.38.64.4252 with no luck..

Computer - Samsung Ativ Book - NP470R5E-501UB

Windows 10 Pro

Intel Core i5 3230M

Intel HD Graphics 4000

- Graphics tab from speccy -

Graphics

        Monitor 1

Name Generic PnP Monitor on Intel HD Graphics 4000

            Current Resolution 1366x768 pixels

            Work Resolution 1366x728 pixels

            State Enabled

            Multiple displays Extended, Secondary, Enabled

            Monitor Width 1366

            Monitor Height 768

Monitor BPP 32 bits per pixel

            Monitor Frequency 60 Hz

            Device \\.\DISPLAY7\Monitor0

        Monitor 2

Name HP 27xi on Intel HD Graphics 4000

            Current Resolution 1920x1080 pixels

            Work Resolution 1920x1040 pixels

            State Enabled

            Multiple displays Extended, Primary, Enabled

            Monitor Width 1920

            Monitor Height 1080

Monitor BPP 32 bits per pixel

            Monitor Frequency 60 Hz

            Device \\.\DISPLAY8\Monitor0

        Intel HD Graphics 4000

            Manufacturer Intel

            Model HD Graphics 4000

            Device ID 8086-0166

            Revision A

            Subvendor Samsung (144D)

            Current Performance Level Level 0

            Driver version 10.18.10.4276

Count of performance levels : 1

                        Level 1 - "Perf Level 0"

                            GPU Clock 349 MHz
