I have an Asus K55A with an Intel core i5 processor.

I installed windows 8.1 today and now my graphics adapter's driver is crashed. I cannot view multiple monitors or adjust my screen resolution settings as it is defaulting to the default microsoft driver.

I have updated to Driver Version:

10.18.10.3316

I still get this notice in the device manager:

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

Object Name not found.

Can anyone advise, as I MUST have multiple monitors for work.

Thanks

I have this same issue. And the same latest driver. Which is very recent. Well within the time frame that Intel had to test and deploy drivers to work with 8.1 RTM. There is no reason that this latest driver should be missing support for an on-time 8.1 release. (today) And this current (latest) driver is what FINALLY fixed the flicker issue I was having in WIndows 8. When it worked fine in Windows 7. So I have had a very short run of my HD 4000 working perfectly since Windows 7. Not happy. And no excuse. Of all the stuff I have on my system, this is the one thing I did not expect issues with for the 8.1 upgrade.

I want to post this as a warning to all who update to this new driver. All yesterday and today I was racking my brain and trying to figure out why my audio wasn't playing, absolutely none of it. I figured out finally today that this new driver update was the culprit, and more specifically, most likely the Intel Display Audio driver. I am running a Lenovo Yoga 13. I reverted back to the original driver this morning and now everything works perfectly. Before, I was getting errors telling me that drivers weren't updated and none of my music was being recognized or played.

FYI-

Just got off of a call with Intel support and for my 64 bit system, they're recommending uninstalling the existing graphics driver (Control Panel >> Programs >> Programs and Features >> Intel Graphics Driver >> Uninstall) and then installing this driver:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23323&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208.1,%2064-bit*&DownloadType=Drivers https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23323&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%208.1,%2064-bit*&DownloadType=Drivers

I'm in progress right now, but will post a status update if it works or doesn't work.

Yeah JB23007, unfortunately if you read my first comment, that is the same stupid driver that is the cause of this problem.

I found that if you uninstall and remove all Intel drivers and scan for hardware changes in the Device Manager after that, go to update driver, browse from my computer. Then pick: I will choose from a list and select Microsoft Default Driver it will then show Microsoft's default Graphics adapter as the driver.

Then with a fresh restart you can at least change the screen resolution. But still no multiple monitors. 😕

Chiming in to say I'm having the same problem on my Haswell machine. My dedicated card works great (Radeon 7950). Device Manager gives me a Code 31 on the Intel HD 4600 graphics since updating to Windows 8.1. Never had an issue in Windows 8.

Running current driver (version 10.18.10.3316). Code 31 on the built-in driver, and after a uninstall/reinstall with the driver from intel.com.

System specs:

Intel i5 4670K (+ Intel HD 4600 graphics)

Asus Z87-Plus

8GB

Radeon 7950

Samsung 840 Evo + 2x HDD

Windows 8.1 x64

Yeah, I have the 3rd gen i7-3770K with HD 4000. And as far as I know, only the HD 4000 had the Windows 8 flicker issue until the current driver. It took Intel about 9 months to solve that issue.

I really hope Intel get a Windows 8.1 driver out real soon.

So I'm running a 3rd generation i7 as well.

Here's a recap of what I've tried (and all of which hasn't worked):

A) Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the current driver. (10.18.10.3316)

B) Tried uninstalling the current driver (10.18.10.3316) and installing the previous driver beta for Windows 8.1.

C) Tried restarting in safe mode, reinstalling the current driver (10.18.10.3316).

D) Clean install of Windows 8.1.

Intel support hasn't been super helpful on the matter. One guy tried to get me to download the driver for a different processor (which I pointed out) and the other guy wanted me to do all of the above (which I'd already done).

Toshiba support (my laptop manufacturer) says its a problem that they're waiting for Intel to patch.

Anyone else have any suggestions. No dual monitors is killing me at work!

+1 on this with Yoga 13. No video in YouTube, Netflix, etc. Most games crash on launch directly after Win 8.1 upgrade. I am running the same latest version of the driver that was mentioned here (mine came in through Windows update).

I am running a Yoga 13 as well. I have a fix for us! Just install the version of the driver that you had before 8.1. Intel has to really re-address this new driver because it was stopping my system from playing ANY sound (I believe it was the Intel Display Audio driver, which comes bundled with the Graphics driver). The one that works is version 10.18.10.3316

I had the same issue with my Samsung ATIV Book 8.

It seems rolling back to version 9.18.10.3257 "fixes" the issue but not really. I can't adjust my screen brightness but at least I can see what I'm doing. Also some rendering seems skewed.

Just some more details about my setup for reference. I have a self-built i7-3770K based system with AMD HD 7870 card. My 2 main screens are connected to the AMD card via DVI and VGA. My 3rd display is an LCD based HDTV connected via HDMI to the motherboard using the IGP intel HD 4000.

Since the Windows 8.1 upgrade on 10/17, the HDMI connected TV no longer gets detected and I have the same Code 31 error:

"The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (code 31)"

"{Operation Failed} The requested operation was unsuccessful"

Searching the internet in general, there are tons of people reaching out on many forums for help on this issue. So hopefully Intel will kick it into high gear and get this solved asap.
