My Intel HD Graphics 620 driver just updated and killed my external display.

My system spec is:

System Model HP Pavilion Notebook

OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home

Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-7100U CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2400 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)

BIOS Version/Date Insyde F.25, 12/12/2016

SMBIOS Version 2.8

BIOS Mode UEFI

Hardware Abstraction Layer Version = "10.0.16299.15"

The Intel HD Graphics driver that causes the failure is: 21.20.16.4749. The symptoms are the external monitor goes black and reports that it cannot the resolution or refresh frequency. Altering the resolution and refresh frequncy makes no difference.

The way I resolved this is rollback the driver to 21.20.16.4542. Here is the procedure:-

1. Open the Device Manager - Type 'device manager' in the bottom left search box

2. Click and expand 'Display adapters'

3. Right click 'Intel(R) HD Graphics 620' to display the drop-down menu, and select 'Properties'

4. Select the 'Driver' tabs, then click 'Roll Back Driver'

This will rollback to the last version
