HD Graphaics 530 Unable to Detect 3rd Monitor

Aloha,

My computer is able to detect and identify Monitor 1 (build in monitor) and Monitor 2, but not Monitor 3. Buuuuut, although Monitor 3 is not being detected, it is mirroring Monitor 2.

I am using a J-Tech Digital JTD0104/4K Most Advanced 4 Ports HDMI 1X4 Powered Splitter and have Monitor 1 (HDMI out) going into the splitter's HDMI IN, and Monitor 2 and 3 going into two of the HDMI out ports. Not sure where I'm going wrong and hoping someone can help me resolve this.

This is just a splitter. What comes in is always going to be what is seen on any/all of the connected monitors. The channel in the opposite direction can be switched amongst the connected monitors to determine what the resolution, etc. of the output signal should be, but what the monitors receive will always be the same.

Bottom line, a splitter device like this is not what you need if your goal is to add a third independent monitor.

While your processor's graphics engine is capable of supporting 3 monitors, HP did not expose an interface for connecting a third monitor (they could have exposed the third port with a DisplayPort, HDMI or VGA connector but they chose to offer none of these). With this setup, I can think of only one way that you could add a third monitor, namely via USB 3.0. This can be done with a device like this: https://www.amazon.com/Graphics-Adapter-Converter-Windows-Support/dp/B0774J9J1Z Amazon.com: USB 3.0 to HDMI 1080P Video Adapter {note: not an endorsement of this product; I haven't tried using it; it as just an example). This would be a low to medium performance interface (i.e. not fast enough for gaming but fine for email, web surfing, etc.).
