Hi Fred,

No it did not. The last step you suggested prevents the software from running at all, so I undid it. The only solution I've found is to go into the C:\Windows\System32 folder and find the file and right click and Run As Administrator there.

I asked for help on the Microsoft forums and they were unable to troubleshoot, saying to contact Intel.

I reinstalled Windows 10 (not a clean install, but reinstalled it while keeping my files and programs), and it did not solve it either.

Not happy that this has been unsolved, but I'm done trying anymore to get it to work. I'm moving on.

Below is the Problem Details summary should you wish to elevate this to your programmers. Reading about the "CLR20r3" problem event name online, it seems to indicate it's a conflict with the .NET Framework. I removed and reinstalled .NET though and it did not solve it, and I also reinstalled Windows 10, which didn't solve it either, so I'm out of ideas.

I've got the Intel HD 4600 switchable graphics with a Nvidia GeForce 730M (Optimus) in Windows 10 64-bit. Whenever I attempt to create a profile, I get this error message:

After which, it goes blank and I attempt to click any of the buttons below again, such as to save a new profile, it crashes:

I have the latest computer provided drivers from Lenovo (20.19.15.4474), but also tried the latest installed drivers from Intel, which are one version newer, but it didn't make a difference to my problem.

I tried uninstalling from Device Manager and reinstalling and it didn't make a difference either.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hello MEA707,

Thanks for the information you sent to me.

I would like you to try reinstalling the graphics drivers. There is a chance the graphics driver got corrupted. Since your computer comes with two video cards there is a special procedure to reinstall the graphics drivers. Please reinstall the driver with the following steps:

Please uninstall our graphics driver first. On the keyboard press WinLogo key + r, then type in devmgmt.msc, double click on Display Adapters>>Intel HD Graphics 4600>>Driver tab>>Uninstall>>Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device>>OK. Do not restart the computer yet.

Now uninstall nVidia* graphics driver too. In Display Adapters double click on NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M>>Driver tab>>Uninstall>>Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device>>OK, and then restart the computer.

Once you have restarted the computer install our graphics driver from this link, and then restart the computer http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cr/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-T440P/20AN/20ANCTO1WW/downloads/DS103422 http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cr/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-T440P/20AN/20ANCTO1WW/downloads/DS103422

Install nVidia* driver from this other link, and then restart the computer one more time http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cr/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-T440P/20AN/20ANCTO1WW/downloads/DS104325 http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cr/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-T440P/20AN/20ANCTO1WW/downloads/DS104325

You can also install monitor driver from this other link http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cr/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-T440P/20AN/20ANCTO1WW/downloads/DS103610 http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/cr/en/products/LAPTOPS-AND-NETBOOKS/THINKPAD-T-SERIES-LAPTOPS/THINKPAD-T440P/20AN/20ANCTO1WW/downloads/DS103610

Let me know if issue persists or not.

Regards,

Fred

Hi Fred,

I tried this, checked the box as you mentioned, but Windows still ends up stubbornly reinstalling the driver after about 20-30 seconds. I even disabled automatic driver update/install from the Control Panel, but that's not stopping it. Windows is still somehow finding the driver and immediately reinstalling it. That goes for both the Intel and Nvidia drivers.

One thing also, the second Lenovo link with the Nvidia drivers, also installs the Intel drivers. The first link is for the Intel drivers only for T440 laptops that only have an integrated video card.

UPDATE:

I managed to stop the drivers from being reinstalled by disabling the internet. This prevented Windows from reinstalling both drivers.

I then installed the drivers from the Lenovo website (I downloaded them before cutting off the internet), however, the problem with the crashing still persists.

It also occurs when I try to create a profile from the General Settings under Display. When I click on the drop down to select it, the Control Panel immediately crashes. See below:

Fred, I just discovered when I right click and Run as Administrator, I do not run into this crashing problem with Profiles.

So there's something in Windows that's blocking the application from saving profiles and that causes it to crash. Hopefully you can replicate this and see what needs to be done to address this without Running as Administrator. I don't have any extra security software, just the standard Windows Defender and Windows Firewall that comes with the OS.

I am no longer eligible for support from Lenovo. It's a 3.5 year old computer that's no longer under warranty.

If it is a problem with the Windows registry, it's specific to the Intel HD Control Panel, as I have no other system problems. Everything else about it runs great.

I'm just not going to worry about setting up profiles anymore and accept that it's unresolved.

Hello MEA707,

I am sorry to hear the issue persists after the troubleshooting steps we have performed.

Thanks for the feedback you are providing to us.

Since I was not able to reproduce the issue in our lab then the problem might be related to the operating system itself.

I see you said before the computer is no longer under warranty, but in case you would like to try something else you may try contacting Lenovo* in order to check if they can reproduce the issue in their lab with the exact same computer model.

Regards,

Fred
