Sony Vaio Pro 13 Windows 8.1 Intel HD Graphics 4400 Driver Problem

The initial problem with the laptop was when I started to play League of Legends on it. It would run for perhaps 5 minutes and then the laptop would just instantly turn itself off (and wouldn't start back up again until the power supply was removed). So I ran Prime95 to see if it was a CPU problem and it ran fine for ~1 hour with the CPU peaking at 96C. Then I ran Furmark at the default 720p benchmark settings and the problem occured again within 30 seconds. Obviously it's a problem with the integrated GPU so I decided to check the drivers.

http://i.imgur.com/hnPW8Nq.png?1 On my device manager it lists it as 'Intel HD Graphics Family' and it's version as 10.18.10.3304 but on the http://i.imgur.com/mECdjN6.png?1 Intel HD Graphics Control Panel it lists it as Intel HD 4400 Graphics, with the same driver version. (Not sure if this is relevant but it might be)

So I went to the Intel website and downloaded http://i.imgur.com/Ag72B84.png?1 the correct driver and tried to install it using the .exe. I then gethttp://i.imgur.com/glVz8A8.jpg?1 this message. So then I tried to manually install the driver from the .zip, and get http://i.imgur.com/mayNyAs.png?1 this message.

Essentially I'm wondering why the driver won't install and whether or not it may be the cause of the instant shutdown problem that only occurs under intense GPU stress.

Hello, Everyone I am having a similar issue with a Sony VIAO, I just updated to Windows 8.1 last week and when I started playing my favorite game ARMA 3 it crashes, I get this error. 3D3 Error : DXGI_Error_Device_Removed, before I Updated to windows 8.1 I was able to play for hours with no problems. I installed the newest version of the intel driver dated 11/27/13 -- 15.33.8.64.3345 with no luck, I can only play the game for 10 mins or so, and I get the same Error.. Can anyone help me.???

I have the Intel i7 and HD Graphics 4000.

Hi gb221,

It appears an overheating problem with your processor. For this matter you need to contact your computer manufacturer for possible warranty options.

Have in mind the graphics controller is included on the processor. Possible hardware problem.

You can try to force the installation of the video drivers manually. See here for instructions:

You may want to check other options with your computer manufacturer. It seems that your OEM does not allow the installation of generic Intel video drives. You are required to install drivers from your computer maker.
