Hello,

Ever since ArmA 3 was released as an alpha back in March, it plagued me (and quite a few others) with these apparently random DirectX 11 crashes (either freezing or CTD):

"D3D Error - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED"

"Display Driver Stopped Responding and has recovered."

A few days ago I, acting on a hunch, installed an old driver (15.28.7.64.2867) from October(?) 2012 and was able to play the game without any crashes in area's/maps that were unplayable before.

Working my way up (I have some, but not all drivers released) I found that the drivers up to 9.17.10.2932 (December 2012) perform flawlessly, while 9.18.10.3071 (March 2013) and later tend to suffer from this issue.

So while installing the latest drivers is recommended as a starting point for every glitch, in this case it is not going to get you anywhere: it seems that every iteration has inherited a flaw that was introduced somewhere during that period (December 2012 - March 2013).

I hope this in some way helps you to tackle this issue, and allows me to have my graphics driver up to date in the near future...

These 'tests' were performed, ceteris paribus, on this machine:

Intel i7-3770K@3500|3900 (HD 4000@1150)

MSi Z77A-GD65 (UEFI: 10.11ß)

32GB Corsair Vengeance@1600

Windows 8.1_x64

All drivers were up to date.

Thank you for your fast reply.

Unfortunately neither the latest Intel, nor OEM driver (http://download1.msi.com/files/downloads/dvr_exe/intel_vga_7_mb_81.zip http://download1.msi.com/files/downloads/dvr_exe/intel_vga_7_mb_81.zip) resolves this issue.

I'll provide you with a list of all the drivers I've used to test this:

Up until 2932 does not show this issue, every driver since 3071 does...

Checking the dxdiag report it seems that you have the driver version 2932 installed. Please try updating the graphics driver that can be downloaded at the following link:

I appreciate your help, but I've already tried 3345.

Please re-read my OP: every driver after 2932 crashes the game, that's why I have to stick with 2932.

I've provided you with a complete list of the drivers I tested (including 3345) in my second post.

The drivers I'd gladly test are those between 2932 and 3071, or those newer than 3355, if you could provide me any of them...

Hi, Beelzebassie I am having the same issue with Arma 3, I had windows 8 when I bought my laptop and Arma 3 worked fine for months and hours, but after I updated to windows 8.1 two weeks ago I stated to get the same message, I've been trying to find a solution and I haven't had any luck, I have the hd 4000 installed as well , I already tried different drivers as well and update to the 3345 but still crashes.

My question is, is Arma 3 still running fine with the driver 2932 if so, could you post a link to download it, I can find the driver 2932 either to download.

Yes Jimmy, 2932 still works like a charm; no crashes at all since I downgraded to it...

(There appears to be a new recent version (3368), but I haven't tested it yet.)

Tried 3412 and 3464ß, both have the game freeze within 5 minutes...

For my DxDiag log I'd like to refer to my post from December 10th; the system remained the same.

How do I make a 'graphics report'?

Hi Beelzebassie,

have the same problem as you and Jimmy (and a lot of others apparently). I have tried to install the old driver (the 2932 as you recommend). However, the computer won't let me. It prompts something like "the computer isn't validated". I have tried to uninstall the lastest intel driver and go back to the windows driver. But with the same problem. I use windows 8.1. Does the old 2932 driver only work with windows 8?

Hope you or intel can find a solution to the problem so that we can play Arma 3 without the constant fear of crashing.

I am sorry for your trouble but let me help you.

The driver 2932 is an old driver and I think it was not intended at that time for Windows 8.1. You mentioned you are using a Sony computer so I was wondering if you have tried updating the BIOS and installing the latest driver they have designed for your unit?

From our side you can update to latest driver by downloading the software at:

I've tried to update the BIOS as in your reply. But Arma 3 is still crashing with the message "display driver stopped working, etc.". Any ideas...??
