the maximum bandwidth of what? the cable? or possibly the usbc bus my laptop has? i know its not the cable, as i can use the same cable on another UHD 620 laptop at 2560x1440 144p hz without issue.

also worth noting, the acer laptop can send a 4k60 signal to my 4k monitor, using the same cable, also without issue.

Laptop: (Acer Spin 5 SP515-51GN-83YY) has Intel UHD Graphics 620

Monitor: (ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q)

using Windows 10, intel driver version 27.20.100.8190 (5/4/20)

im trying to connect the laptop to the monitor (cable is DP on one end, USB C on the other), and the monitor will set itself into 2560x1440 59p mode

i would like to change the refresh rate to 144, which DOES show up in the dropdown, indicating compatibility, but when i hit Apply, the screen blanks for a sec, then reverts back to 59p hz.

the highest rate it will let me use is 85p hz. All those above that setting just don't seem to apply.

i know the cable and monitor are good, because my other laptop (HP EliteBook 840 G5) has the same UHD Graphics 620, and i can hook it up to the same monitor, same cable, and select 2560x1440 144p hz just fine

worth noting, the acer laptop also has linux on it, and i experience similar symptoms, using the command `xrandr --output DP-1 --mode 2560x1440 --rate 144`. the desired mode just wont take before reverting.

any hints? ty

Hello JWint16,

I would like to provide an update in this thread.

Based on the Report for Intel® Graphics Drivers attached it indicates that the Supported Modes for the display which passes this information to the graphics controller through the EDID information supports the 2560 x 1440 (144p Hz) resolution.

The Intel® UHD Graphics 620 supports a Max resolution of 4096x2304@60Hz for DisplayPort™ (DP). For more details please refer to the following article.

It’s worth noting that depending on the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) , we need to take video output and other facts in consideration. As they may limit functionality and features. Please check with the system vendor to determine if your system delivers this feature, or reference the system specifications.

I would recommend checking with the OEM to confirm actual capabilities for this system regarding supported features, available video output bandwidth, etc.

Esteban D.

Intel Technical Support Technician

Same problem on EliteBook x360 1030 G4, running Intel UHD 620 5/5/2020 drivers. The PG278Q monitor works well 2k@120Hz, but 4k@144Hz gets totally scrambled. The connection is via USB C using Delock 8k cable. I have no issues with same cable and monitor on Mac M1.
