Heavy frame drops in-game

Hello,

Whenever I try to run The Witcher 3 or Middle-Earth Shadow of Morder, the game runs great at 40-60 fps and then drops to 2-3 fps, I don't think it happens during the Tomb Raider games, but I am not sure. It even happens in the menu when I have the games on pause. I have checked the temps and they seem okay.

The laptop I am running on is a:

Lenovo Thinkpad X1 yoga Gen 6

I7-1185G7

32GB ram @ 4266 MHz

I have tried holding down the power button for about one minute, but it did not work. At first I thought the problem was fixed because it took a while before the problems came back, but they did. I tried the power-button trick again and this time nothing changed.

When monitoring my power usage, core frequency, temps etc. I noticed that my core frequencies seem to drop when the frame rate drops. When everything goes well, frequency is around 3.3 - 4.5 GHz, but when the game stutters the frequency drop to about 400 MHz, until the game picks up again. The temps were not exceptionally high before the game starts lagging, so that seems to not be a reason.

I have found a long threat on the Lenovo forums which explains this same issue:

Here, Lenovo has confirmed that there is a problem and they say there will be a BIOS fix soon. The same problem is also mentioned in a review on Notebookcheck.

I will have to wait for the BIOS update.
