Memory layout for large FFTs

In the case of large FFTs, size 512K+ it appears that the processing become memory bus limited. Apart from using ippsMalloc for memory allocation, is there anything else that should be done to improve performance? At these sizes the processor cache can't be very helpful?

ippsFFT performs internal blocking for such big vectors nothing else may be done.
