I find the description in the Software Optimization Manual (available &lt;A href="http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/architectures-software-developer-manuals.html"&gt;here&lt;/A&gt;)very helpful.&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;A front side bus(FSB). &lt;/STRONG&gt;Today's Intel Xeon processors don't use the FSB anymore. If you only care about Xeon, you can skip this.&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;An instruction set , or instruction set architecture (ISA)&lt;/STRONG&gt;. Volume 2 of the &lt;A href="http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/architectures-software-developer-manuals.html"&gt;Intel 64 and IA-32 Architectures Software Developers Manuals&lt;/A&gt;lists them all. This is a rather lengthy document :)&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;LI&gt;&lt;STRONG&gt;max cpu clock rate&lt;/STRONG&gt;. As Maxym hassuggested, you can look up yourprocessor on&lt;A href="https://community.intel.com/ark.intel.com"&gt;ark.intel.com&lt;/A&gt;to find it's max (turbo) frequency.&lt;/LI&gt;&lt;/UL&gt;</description>
