topic Intel I7 - 860 help. in Intel® ISA Extensions

Hello, I hope this is the proper place for this thread.

I have a question. I have the I7-860 running on a 400W PSU. I notice that it isn't running at it's full potential. I notice that it has cores 7, 5 halted, core 3 is sometimes halted as well.I have my bios set to use all cores. Is this a power issue? does the I7 halt cores if there is not enough power to run them?

You're probably seeing the results of Core Parking. Windows 7 will power down cores to save energy when it isn't busy enough to utilize them.

Thanks,

400W is plenty for the CPU; possibly not for the video cards typically used along with this model CPU. As the other response indicated, the platform looks for opportunities to save power by halting logicals, and (with Turbo enabled) to speed up remaining cores when the work is concentrated on them.
