&lt;P&gt;I don't think the HPC forumsare the best place for your question so I'm moving it to a different location, where experts will (hopefully) be able to answer it.&lt;/P&gt;

I'm not sure if it directly relates to your question, but, perhaps, it's a good place to start.&lt;/P&gt;

      <description>Hi,&lt;BR /&gt;Does Nehalem processor allows scaling down the voltage of the processor. If yes, how can we achieve it?&lt;BR /&gt;Is there a software for it on Linux. &lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I am using cpuspeed to modify its frequency on Linux, but I am not sure if the voltage gets changed too automatically?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;Also, can we measure the power consumed by each core or each processor?</description>
