Intel® Optane™ in CNC programming ?

As a CNC programmer, I'm looking for any way to speed up calculations and toolpath simulation.

If any of you have experience in this sector and especially with Optane memory in CNC programming, please post your reply.

If we inferred correctly, please, review the following information:

1- The Intel® Optane™ memory is a system acceleration solution that can be used to increase responsiveness on supported Intel platforms with Intel® Rapid Storage Technology software.

*Note

Contact your system vendor to determine which module (Intel® Optane™ Memory M Series or Intel® Optane™ Memory H Series) is in your system.

The Intel® Optane™ Memory H10 with Solid State Storage device is available as part of a complete system. If you find issues or a need to disable acceleration, such as reinstall the OS or backup data, we strongly recommend you work with your system vendor before changes are made. There may be system customizations specific to the platform.

2- Please consider that the system acceleration works the same while accelerating an HDD or SSD.

*Note: Performance jump will be different while using an HDD and an SSD.

3- The best option to accelerate your programming software SolidCam* will be by pinning the application.

Note

Pinning is not supported on 12th Generation platforms and Intel RST 19. x drivers.

Thank you for for this detailed answer JosafathB.

This is a problem for many of us who works with big parts and tight tolerances. Especially on simulations where many surfaces need to be generated in order to represent real work. Although this is not really memory hungry work, I managing 100 GB of my RAM to be used.

As for pinning, I'm out of luck. We just bought i9 12gen to pair with DDR5, since 64 core Threadripper shows no improvements over Xeon W-2145 processor. Graphic card is Nvidia A6000.

Since progress in this field is hugely driven by speed, we will continue to look for improvements.
