Have a dead PC with a 16GB Optane NVMe and a 1TB Sata drive. They must have been paired because the Sata drive isn't readable.

We have another identical laptop available. I have moved the Optane and Sata drive to working laptop but there must be something that needs to happen in the bios to tell them to pair.

Or should be Sata drive be readable without the Optane chip?

Some more info: These laptops show Intel RST RAID driver in the bios. But the Optane and the Sata drive show up under "Non-RAID Physical Disks:"
