Optane NVDIMM backwards compatibility

We are putting together a server for research and considering whether we should include Optane. I have a couple questions about Optane NVDIMM support that I wasn't able to answer elsewhere:

1) Do 5th-gen and later Xeon CPUs support Optane NVDIMMs?

2) Is support for newer Optane generations compatible with older ones? For instance, 4th-gen Xeons support 300 series Optane; does that mean that they also support 100 and 200 series?

Please be informed Intel has dropped Optane Persistent Memory Support from 5th Gen Xeon processors onwards.

2) Is support for newer Optane generations compatible with older ones? For instance, 4th-gen Xeons support 300 series Optane; does that mean that they also support 100 and 200 series?

Intel Optane persistent memory is designed for use with the 2nd and 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scallable Processors family and is enable by a sub-set of processors, primarily enabled by the Gold and Platinum tier models.

The Intel Optane PMem 200 series is enabled with 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors. The Intel Optane PMem 100 series is enabled with the 2nd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable Processors. PMem modules are not enabled in any other hardware combinations. Mixing PMem generations or product capacity SKUs within a system is not supported. The DDR4 and provisioned PMem Module`s memory configuration shall be uniformly configured and provisioned across all sockets.

Just an additional information, the Effective January 31st, 2023, Intel has cancelled the Intel® Optane™ Persistent Memory 300 Series (previously code-named Crow Pass) and not develop future Intel Optane products.
