Hello Donald, it is not recommended to do this. Your new system is different and all the chipset software/inf and any drivers will be for the old system. You may try it and have your OS CD's ready. But for sure I would back up all your data. I recommend backing up, doing the fresh install and restore the data files you want to keep.

Regards,

Tim

I presently have a desktop computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.OG 1333MHz FSB 6MB L2 Cache LGA775 Retail CPU (BX80570E8400)/SLAPL in an Asus P5QL-VM DO B43+ICH10D LGA775 1333MHz FSB Dual DDR2 800 DVI+VGA, SATA PC1-E x16, GbLAN, 6-Ch Snd mATX Mainboard. I have a removeable hard drive with Windows 7 Ultimate with Service Pack 1.

If I replace this board and chip with a new Intel Core i3-3220 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 55W Dual Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 2500 BX80637i33220 and a new ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM Desktop Motherboard--Intel Socket H2 LGA-1155, will my drive from the old system find the right drivers and start up without a problem? (I don't want to install Windows again and start from scratch.) If not, could I install the drivers for the new system on my drive before I install the new board and chip. I would sure appreciate any help on this from a truly knowledgable source. Thank you so much.
