I don't think Oracle is written or compiled to execute accessing 6 cores. I know it's been upgraded to handle 4, but to be honest, I wouldn't count on it having the capability to access 6 yet.

Hello,

could anyone explain why the 6core Intel Xeon 7400 series isn't so much faster in the tpmC-benchmarks as the Intel Xeon 5500 4core series?

With 4 CPUs each with 6cores the Intel Xeon 7400 series (639,253 tpmC) should be much faster in the tests as the server system with 2 CPUs each with 4cores of the Intel Xeon 5500 series (631,766 tpmC).

What could be reasons why a customer should choose Intel Itanium II CPUs for an Oracle Database environment? Are there any advantages or disadvantages by using the Intel Xeon 5500 or 7400 series?

Thanks for your answers

Daniel

I covered this a bit in my blog. The memory to socket bandwidth difference is the key.
