Intel i3-540 processor speed?

Hi all,

I'm considering a new CPU but need a confirmation first.

I'm interested in Intel Core i3-540 which has a processor speed of 3.06 Ghz. My question is this: does the 3.06Ghz refers to the processor speed of two cores put together (i.e. 1.53Ghz for each core) - or does the 3.06Ghz refers to each core, giving a combined total of 6.12Ghz?

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but it's very important that I get this one right.

Thanks very much

Each Core is 3.06Ghz.

You can't really say it's 6Ghz, the extra cores don't scale in power in a 1:1 maner.

Many thanks Ytterbium,

That is very helpful answer, as I had been hoping it is 3.06Ghz on each core.
