Does anyone know if the J1900 processor supports HD bitstream (TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc). Windows 8.1 64 Bit. I have tried everything to updating the bios, updating the latest Intel Display Audio driver, updating to the latest graphics driver, etc. While researching online I do see others mentioning similar issue with this new set of processors.

I would like to keep this processor if this show stopper issue is resolved.

Thanks Allan. Based on my research at other forums, HD audio works under OpenElec (Linux). So its definitely appears to be a windows driver issue. Will wait for your findings and eventual resolution.

It does however work using Linux though -

Try booting OpenElec from a USB then opening your video file, you should find that dts-hd MA will work, I haven't tested DD HD yet.

Yes. It's true that it works on OpenElec. Need it on Windows for WMC (mainly) and Netflix. This issue has been reported widely on various forums for months and I am not sure why Intel is dragging their feet on the Windows Driver. Maybe its something to do with licensing costs for DD/DTS!!

Allan,

After all the research and analysis it is definite that the J1900 and N2820 (and other processors from the same family) CANNOT do HD bitstream in Windows. Is this something that will be fixed with a driver update (if so, when)? Or is this something that was never intended to work on Windows? Your response will dictate whether I keep this unit or return.

Thanks,

As I posted in the other thread for the NUC Celeron 2820 model.

The drivers for the Bay Trail line of processors do not have the Intel Management Engine driver supplied, from my research this is required for the HDCP content protection that Windows insists on in order to get DTS-HD & TrueHD. Every other line of Intel processor with integrated Intel HD Graphics from Clarkdale to Haswell has the Intel Management Engine driver available, however for some unknown reason Bay Trail doesn't.

For example here is the latest version for Haswell https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23091&lang=eng Download Center

Linux does not insist on HDCP hence why OpenElec and other Linux distro's can pass DTS-HD with no problems.

Intel's lack of resolution on this issue is currently holding me back from buying a J1900 system, please fix

For those of you facing this issue, does your media player (I am looking to run XBMC on Win7 for reference) downgrade the HD audio from DTS-HD/Dolby TrueHD to normal surround DTS/DD? Or does it go down to stereo output and you lose the surround completely? This system is out of the question if it's the latter, but if it's just a slight loss of quality in non-HD surround then I'm much happier buying the system now and waiting for a fix later.
