I got a new laptop that has a SU2700 processor. It was supposed to have a T6400. I can't find any info on this SU2700 chip. Can someone please help to compare these for me? I need to know whether or not to return this laptop and I only have a few more days.

Thanks

How did you find out that your computer has the SU2700? If you have Windows, you can see what processor you have by going to Start -> Control Panel -> Click on Classic Menu on the left -> System, what processor does it say the computer has? It should say Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T6400 2.0GHz there if you got the right processor.

The Intel SUxxxx Core 2 Solo processor is the next generation single-core processor. It does not appear that Intel has as yet released any actual performance information as to how the SUxxxx CPUs may compare to other x86-64, 64 bit single core Celeron and/or Core 2 Duo laptop, dual core processors, such as the T6400. The SU2700 processor apparently uses much less power, than the T6400. The SU2700 apparently has a maximum TDP of 5.5 watts as compared to a maximum TDP for the T6400 of 35 watts, thus running much cooler than the T6400.

The SU2700 is also much smaller, approximately half of the size at 22nm, compared to the lithography of the T6400 which is 45nm. Both the SU2700 and T6400 CPUs have front side bus speeds of 800 MHz, with 2MB L2 cache, however, the SU2700 has a 1.30GHz frequency, as compared to the 2.0GHz frequence of the T6400. On the bright side, many of the computers sporting the SU2700 have DDR3 SDRAM which has a data transfer rate that is approximately twice the transfer rate of DDR2 SDRAM, with a 30% reduction of power usage. Most of these laptop PCs run the Intel GMAx 4500 graphics card.

To get a general idea as to the processing performance of your computer vis-a-vis Windows, go to Start - Control Panel - System/Check Windows Experience Index Base Score and check your score. A minimum "Base Score" of 3.0 is recommended to run Windows Premium. My experience is that a Sony Vaio PC with a T6400 processor, Vista (64 bit), 4GB DDR2 SDRAM and Intel GMAx 4500 graphics card, yields a Windows Experience Index Base Score in the 3.8 range. Processor Calculations Per Second for this computer with the T6400 CPU are in the 5.5 Subscore range.

As I am not an Intel engineer, this is the best comparison that I can make of the Intel SU2700 CPU to the T6400 CPU with the information on the SU2700 that is available. I hope that this might be helpful for your comparison.

Thanks for the help. I have returned the original laptop and gotten the one with the T6400. I know that the newer chip may have had great battery life, but hopefully the performance from the T6400 will make up the difference.

Thanks for all the help.

Now I'm totally confused. The first link indicates the SU2700 processor has 2 cores, the second link says 1 core.

2 Cores in SU2700:http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ParentRadio=All&ProcFam=0&SearchKey=su2700 http://processorfinder.intel.com/List.aspx?ParentRadio=All&ProcFam=0&SearchKey=su2700

1 Core in SU2700:http://ark.intel.com/product.aspx?id=42004&code=su2700 http://ark.intel.com/product.aspx?id=42004&code=su2700

Which is it, 1 or 2 cores in the SU2700?

Sorry for the confusion. For this processor (SU2700), the information provided on the number of CPU cores is correct in the ark.intel.com tool. I'll put a request in to update the information provided in the processor spec finder tool.

John S.

Intel Customer Support

*Other names and brands may be claimed as the property of others.

BTW: If you want to do a side-by-side comparison of the SU2700 & the T6400, here you go:

http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=40479,42004, http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=40479,42004,

I hope that helps!

Best Regards,

Eric M.
