Upgrading my laptop processor

Hi,

I am using a Lenovo G50-80, Product: 80L0 (Amazon Link: http://www.amazon.in/LENOVO-G50-80-80L0006CIN-15-6-inch-graphic/dp/B0114U3GQ4 Buy LENOVO G50-80 80L0006CIN 15.6-inch Laptop (Core i3- 4030u/4GB RAM/1TB HDD/DOS/Intel HD graphic), Black Online at Low….). It has an Intel Core i3-4030U CPU @ 1.9GHz processor. But some of the software's that I use require more processing power. So, I would like to know if I can upgrade my laptop to a 4th or 5th gen Intel core i7 processor.? I already have increased my RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb DDR3.

Your owner's manual probably contains a list of supported CPUs. Also the Lenovo webpage for that product will probably have a list of supported CPUs. Don't forget that you may need to update the BIOS before switching CPUs, otherwise the PC may not start. I think you can install the Intel Core i7-4650U or the Intel Core i7-4578U.

But that's kinda crazy. And you should be asking Lenovo, because it's their motherboard- not Intel's. And the motherboard determines the cpu used.

No. Motherboard. Software doesn't alter hardware. This is the real world, not programming class.

Please take a look at http://ark.intel.com/products/81018/Intel-Core-i3-4030U-Processor-3M-Cache-1_90-GHz Intel® Core™ i3-4030U Processor (3M Cache, 1.90 GHz) Specifications, it is a processor sitting on socket FCBGA1168. In other words, the CPU chip might be soldered onto the mainboard of your laptop computer. If so, that is almost impossible to change (upgrade) processor! But please contact the manufacturer of your laptop computer for detail information.

If one has a DH67BL or DH67CL motherboard with a BIOS of 0132 or earlier and attempts to install an Ivy Bridge CPU , the system will not start because even though the LGA 1155 socket fits the CPU, the BIOS does not know about 22nm CPUs. But if the BIOS is updated with one later than 0132, both Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge CPUs can be used. You are demonstrably wrong, child.
