Much newer and "faster" (faster is a bad term since the processor clock speed (Ghz) may be slower, but the processor is able to do more operations per seconds)

The SSE2 requirement is a little harder to confirm. since I don't see the instruction support posted anywhere in a real quick look.

The tool i would recommend is CPUID from CPUZ http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html (freeware great software.Company surive on donations)

As well as the Processor Name, you get a list of Instructions support both by the processor and the mother board BIOS.

SSE2 is fairly ild so it should be supported.

I have an application to install on several user machines that requires the following processor capability:

Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon dual-core processor, 1.6 GHz or higher with SSE2 technology

I've asked my users to go to system information to determine what processor they have, but not sure how this helps:

x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 11 GenuineIntel 2193 Mhz x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10 GenuineIntel ~2660 Mhz

Is there a mapping (Family X, Model XX) that tells me what kind of processor this is? I've been searching around and discovered that Family 6 Model 15 is an Intel Dual Core. My questions are:

1. Do the two processors listed above meet or exceed a Pentium 4 specification?

2. Is an Intel Dual Core as fast/faster than an Pentium 4?

Thanks!

Download and install the http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/processors/toolspiu Processor Identification Utility. It will tell you which processor is installed, and whether it supports SSE2 or not.

Thank you for the utility. The software the users want to install requires Pentium 4 but I still do not know if a Core 2 Duo E6400 is faster than a Pentium 4? The utility told me "Core 2 Duo E6400"

THanks again

Thanks Doc:

Are you saying the Core 2 Duo CPU is newer than the Pentium 4? I ran the Intel utility and confirmed it supports SSE2 technologies. I do understand that 'faster' is a relative term.

Yes Core 2 Duo is at least two generations newer than Pentium 4.
