i5 4670 clock

I have a doubt about the clock for the processor i5 4670.

The clock of this processor is 3,4ghz up to 3,8ghz with turbo.

I know that with no use the clock goes down to 800hz but...

when i execute a stress test or even a game the clock does not goes higher then 3,6ghz. Why?

I tried to set the windows power management to high performance and when that is done the processor clock get stuck at 3,6ghz, is that correct? Is not suppose to reach 3,8ghz?

Using CPUz and the motherboard software it shows the multipliers from 8 to 38.

I also have all drivers, bios and windows updated.

I am sorry you are having problems with the system but let me help you.

We have received reports that the CPUz sometimes does not give the correct information about the system therefore I recommend you running the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool. This will run a stress test and will diagnose the internal components of the processor and displaying the results at the end of the test.

To be sure i was using cpuid and hwinfo64...

I think i managed to solve my problem. What i did was set manually my processor specs into the motherboard instead of use the "auto" setup.

So i have set for CPU Ratio and Cache Multiplier to x38 and the BUS clock to 100.0hz.

Now the CPU uses full turbo clock when a program or game is running.

Now i have a new doubt:

I have a EVGA CPU cooler, so the turbo boost (3,8ghz) is capable of being activated almost full time while playing. Is that ok for the processor? (Temperature while playing gets 55Cº tops.)

It is completely normal that the Turbo Boost. Our processors have been designed and tested to run under heavy work load situations so having the Turbo Boost enable is not a problem. In regards the temperature, it can go up to 77C and it is still under the normal temperature for the processor.

Your i5-4670 can reach up to 3.8GHz even without changing the multiplier in BIOS. The reason why you only get up to 3.6GHz is that you most likely are using 4 active cores, you can only get 3.8GHz when there is only one core active. After the settings i have in my MB the processor reaches with ALL CORES 3,8mhz.

Having in mind the link you sent me it looks like i'm overclocking the processor.

Is that frequency safe for the processor? (With my cooler the CPU in full load reaches 60Cº tops.)

If you enable just one core the system will reach the clock mentioned by DisplayName but this is not overclocking so it is a safe configuration and it is still under the supported configuration.

All the cores are enable and all of them reaches 3.8Mhz.

since you manually increased the multiplier in BIOS to 38 and the base clock is 100 definitely you will get 3.8GHz instead of 3.6GHz, however that is considered overclocking which means the voltage and heat generation will also increase, now your getting 60 degrees celcius. For the temperature 60 degrees celcius, that is still in safe operating temperature athough that will make you a little bit uncomfortable i guess. please dont mind that too much, i only thought that the 60 degrees celcius temperature is making you uncomfortable/worried but you should not, that's all.
