I have to test it to find out if it works, but is it safe? Could it damage anything else?

Does it look sirious? http://imgur.com/a/12ctY http://imgur.com/a/12ctY (bottom right corner)

I don't think you will get an official response from Intel as it is a liability question.

In my personal opinion as bad as that looks it should be ok, the reason is the CPU or the brain of that does everything is under the silver heat spreader it is that small square or rectangle block if you were to remove the heatspreader. If you do a youtube video of delidding haswell CPU you can see the actual inside of the CPU.

The gold contacts are the most important, if none of them are scratch or damage it should be ok. The gold part under the CPU that you see are both data transfer to the motherboard and power delivery to CPU itself, as long as a connection is fine you should not see any long term problems.

Worst case scenario you get a no post, but I don't think that will happen as I don't see cracks on the CPU or any other scratches. anywhere else. from your pictures. Look to see if you see any fractures or cracks on the bottom. If everything looks ok then it should be ok just cosmetic damage.
