Modern equivalent of an intel Core 2 Duo

I own a fujitsu amilo pi 1536 laptop which needs to be replaced by my insurance company.

It has an Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T5600 (2M Cache, 1.83 GHz, 667 MHz FSB) processor. Can somebody give me an indication of a modern equivalent? i3, i5 or i7 for example?

Using the Intel Processor Feature Filter, selecting # of cores, frequency, and currently manufactured, I see 258 processors:

I did not search for socket compatibility, as they would not be current.

If you use the filter I provided, make sure you reset any features you wish to change.

what might be a better question is;

What are the major differences between intel i3, i5 and i7 processors?

My Amilo Pi was classed as an all-purpose / mainstream laptop useful for multi-tasking: wordprocessing, photo-editing, viewing movies, gaming (as opposed to a chromebook 'type' which the insurance company want to replace it with). I understand i3 processors are dual-core, like my Amilo, but can they achieve these all-purpose tasks with an i3?

The major differences between the i3, i5, and i7 is cores, threads, and cost. There are other differences as well, like speed, cache, etc.

By going to the Intel home page (http://www.intel.com/ www.intel.com ), select Products, and then select Processors. Once there, you can view the various processor families. Regarding your second question, a current processor as we are discussing, will be able to do those tasks, depending on memory and the software you are using, and all are better suited than the T5600 you had, in my opinion. Here, in this link, I have compared your t5600 to a current i3-6100H which would be found in a laptop, as an example of the differences:

Your T5600 is roughly nine years old. There have been improvements, for sure.

Now, all this said, I know absolutely nothing about Chromebooks. So, regarding how they perform with Intel i3 processors, how they are configured with memory and storage, etc, how they will handle your applications, etc, is something I cannot comment on.
