I'm building a system using the Intel i7-7820x processor on an ASRock x299 Taichi Motherboard. The only spec I can find on the processor seems to indicate that it will only handle 4 X DDR4 modules of up to 8GB each. I was planning to load two modules of 16GB each and need to know if this will work or not. The spec doesn't seem real clear on this. Thanks.

Bubba, Thanks for the quick response. On Intel's website the i7-7820x is not listed under the 8th generation processors, so I clicked on the "x-series" and found it listed there. Oddly, when I downloaded the datasheet it was labeled "6th-gen-x-series-processors". On page 7 is states "It features and Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) that supports 4 channels of DDR4 memory". I assumed incorrectly that the term "channels" referred to the actual DIMM slots on the motherboard - which I believe now is actually speaking of "quad channel memory". However, on page 9, it states, "supports 4 DDR channels" and "4GB and 8GB DDR4 DRAM technologies supported for these devices: UDIMM x8".

I know my motherboard specs and I bought the 7820x processor with the understanding that it would support the G. Skill 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR4 2400MHz I bought - planning to add more in the future as needed for audio production work. But the statement on page 9 about the GB supported threw me and I still don't understand it. I just want to know that the processor will support the 16GB DDR4 memory in each DIMM slot. Thanks for helping clarify this.

Hello, everyone!

BubbaB: Thank you very much for that information. That is actually correct!

Lado: Thank you very much for contacting the Intel® Communities Team. Just to 7th Generation processor. Please find the https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/7th-gen-core-family-desktop-s-processor-lines-datasheet-vol-1.html 7th Generation Datasheet, page 21, 2.1.1.2 section, the processor will support 16GB on each DIMM. Bear in mind that this specific processor will support DDR4-2666 and I recommend you to have the XMP option activated on your Motherboard's BIOS.

Antony S.
