Also is the i3-330m a Single core or does it have 2 cores?

Faster would be the i3 I imagine. However, the core2 is certainly better tested and doesn't have the problems that still exist with i3s and the new drivers/chipsets. In the end I don't think you will notice any real speed diff, since they bechmark pretty close together in most cases.
