intel xtu graphics stress test failed

I installed the most recent version of intel XTU 6.4.1.23. I am running windows 10 1709. When i try to run the stress test for graphics it says it needs to install .net 3.5. I allow it to install. After install I reboot and run XTU. When I choose graphics stress test it fails. graphicsstresstest.exe fails. Any ideas? Another post mentions needing directx? Directx is already installed.

I have upgraded to Windows 10 1803 and i still have the same problem.

I see that you are having problems to complete the graphics stress test on your unit, allow me to help you with the inquiries.

In order to help you better, I would like to gather more information about the configuration you have on the computer. Please attach to this thread the TXT file the Intel® System Support Utility will generate: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility Steps to save the report:

Run the utility.
Click on "Scan" to get the scanned system.
Once the scan is complete click on "next".
Use the "save" option, save the report to your desktop.
To attach a file, you must click the "Attach" option on the bottom right-hand corner of the response box.

Could you also run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool? Please provide me with the .txt file report.

Looking into the Intel® processor diagnostic tool I noticed that the processor is not reporting any failure, let me investigate further the behavior that the Intel® XTU is having while running the stress test, I will be posting back when news becomes available.

Hi,

I didnt think there was a failure on the chip since this happened on 3 different laptops. Also I can undervolt up to -.110 and still be stable. BUT if I undervolt even .05 it will not survive a modern standby. As soon as it sleeps the systems crashes. I did not see a BSOD but event viewer will show unexpected shutdown detected. On reboot intel xtu will automatically restart and say something about error. Other people have mentioned the same problem on reddit.

Allow me to share with you that in Intel® XTU has been mainly designed for the unlocked processor ( K and Extreme processors), also bear in mind that overclocking/underclocking may cause unexpected behavior to the unit.

I have tried it on Thinkpad X1 Yoga 3rd generation and Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th generation. All have I7-8650U

I am having the same problem with my X1 Carbon 6th Gen with i5-8350U. System will reboot whenever it goes to sleep regardless of how little offset I apply.

green5178, it passes the stress test. But it doesn't survive entering sleep mode. Yes, I've seen other posts as well, but the solution seem to be switch to Throttlestop... I'm not aware of any solution /w XTU.

Yours passes the GRAPHICS stress test? Mine passes the CPU and memory stress test. It fails on the GRAPHICS stress test.

Hey

Mine done the exact same thing: when tried to run the graphics street test it asked me to install .net 3.5, upon which it fails. No idea why? It is a brand new laptop with an i7-8850H processor

Hey there

Apologies for the late response. As far as I know mine 'still' probably fails the stress test on the GPU. However what I can deduce is it is caused through essentially having 2 GPU's - and it is neither of them 'failing' but the software used..

I did a test online and my machine scored high in every single field, but the GPU. Upon investigation, the site measured Intel's dGPU and not the more powerful nvidia graphics card... Yet on Cinebench, the machines GPU scored highly because their software measured the Nvidia graphics card instead..

So, from what I could tell, its usually all software dependent and the reason why our machines failed their stress test using Intels programme is due to their programme getting confused (or that's what I have put it down too haha)

Sorry if everything I have said is incorrect, its all just my assumption from the tests I done

Ggarcia I agree its a software problem. X1 yoga and X1 carbon only have integrated graphics yet it still fails.

Its been 1 month since original post. Intel can you provide an update?

Such as.

1. We are still working on it.

2. Its a problem but we wont fix it.
