Yes, a GPT partition is necessary. Are you booting legacy?

So we can have more information about your system, Download, run, and save the results of this utility as a text file:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility

Then ATTACH the text file (look at the instruction under the reply window).

Ok, your bios is set to LEGACY. We need to get you to UEFI. We would also like to have you update your windows 10 to 1909 or 2004.

But first, UEFI boot. To do this without a clean install, you need to run MBR2GPT. Here is a link on how to do this.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/81502-convert-windows-10-legacy-bios-uefi-without-data-loss.html

Once you do this, and reboot, you must immediately enter your bios and change the boot mode from LEGACY to UEFI. Once you have done that, you can boot to the OS, and you will now be a UEFI boot, with a GPT disk rather than an MBR disk.

I keep getting this error

"ERROR: MBR2GPT can only be used from the Windows Preinstallation Environment. Use /allowFullOS to override."

C:\WINDOWS\system32>mbr2gpt.exe /disk:4 /convert /allowFullOS

MBR2GPT will now attempt to convert disk 4.
If conversion is successful the disk can only be booted in GPT mode.
These changes cannot be undone!
