Hello,

as explained in my previous suject, I want to buy an Intel i9-10980XE CPU, an Asus WS X299 SAGE/10G motherboard and a RAM Kit of 256 GB.

Official compatibility informations :

Intel CPU supported memory type : DDR4-2933

Asus motherboard supported RAM : DDR4 4200(O.C.)/4133(O.C.)/4000(O.C.)/3600(O.C.)/2933/2666/2400/2133 MHz Non-ECC, Un-buffered Memory

Since the frequency specified for the RAM is "DDR4-2933" for the CPU, I assume that this means that this CPU supports a maximum frequency of 2933 MHz.
It's correct ?

However, I don't find a 256 GB RAM kit with a frequency of 2933 MHz on the Internet, so can I use a higher frequency RAM kit supported by this motherboard ?
For example : this kit of 256 GB of RAM / 3600 MHz : G.Skill Trident Z Neo 256 Go (8 x 32 Go) DDR4 3600 MHz CL18

PS : the goal is to be able to use the maximum RAM frequency supported by this processor. So : 2933 Mhz.

Thanks in advance

You should be ok. If it doesn't work, turn off the highest XMP profile and try again.

I must remind you that using any memory bus speed above 2933 is technically overclocking and can void your processor warranty. It is rare for this to cause issues, just forewarning.

ok, but I don't want to overclock my computer.

So, by default, the frequency used will be 2933 Mhz or I need to configure a specific settings (in the BIOS) to be sure to use the 2933 Mhz frequency ?

It varies from one vendor to another and from one BIOS to another, so you will need to look to be sure: The normal setting for this parameter is usually 'Auto', which means that it will attempt to use the highest XMP profile by default. You need to set this parameter so that it either doesn't use XMP profiles at all or only uses the XMP profile for 2933.

I just bought a 10980xe and am planning on recycling my ram. I have 64gb corsair vengeance ddr4 2133. Will this work? Or should I buy 2333?

No, it should work just fine using your old 2133 memory. The memory interface will be 25% slower than it could be with 2933 memory, obviously, though I am not sure what that will translate to in terms of system performance. There are sites with comparisons available on the InterWeb.
