Upgrade CPU HP G4-2160br

I would like to replace the current i5-3210M CPU with an i7-3612QM from an HP Pavilion G4-2160br notebook. But I have doubts about the socket.

According to the maintenance manual available at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03345638 the i7-3612QM CPU is compatible with the model in question.

But I would like confirmation, as I have little experience in the matter.

Before you do anything, you need to ask HP what processors are supported BY THEIR BIOS. Then, you can select from those processors.

And, no, you cannot use the QM. Not only is the socket different, it is soldered to the motherboard.

A member of the HP community reports that, according to the official notebook manual, (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03345638) the i7-3612QM is compatible with the notebook model in question.

Is it possible to identify an i7-3612QM using the number printed on the CPU?

Yes, SR9MQ (the spec code) is found under "ordering and compliance, retired and discontinued" on this link:

This is a socketed processor and is NOT soldered to your motherboard.
