Hi,

I am purchasing a laptop from Dell, model # S540513IN8 - Dell Inspiron(TM) 1440 Laptop. With this system the OEM is giving Vista Home Premium 64 bit SP1 edition. Now I am interested in using 32 bit OS only. Will this processor be able to support the 32 bit OS and if yes then will I be able to run all the drivers specific to 32 bit OS?

Hi there,

Most Intel® Processors are designed to support both 32bit and 64bit platform. However not all processors will support 64bit platform, but all will support the 32bit platform.

So you need not worry, if you say the system you are buying will come with Vista 64bit version, hence the processor supports both 32 bit and 64 bit platforms.

However I cannot find any information about the T6500 processor. May be you have mis-typed the model.

If you want to know more about other Intel processors or another intel technology you can use this link and enter the specific product and you will find the information: http://ark.intel.com

For the drivers, you will need to contact the manufacturer of the system to get more support. Operating system drivers are not related to processor. It has nothing to do with the processor. Please contact Dell to know more about drivers availability for 32bit versions of operating system.

FYI: Under 32bit operating systems you cannot use more that 3.5GB - 4GB memory.

Thanx for your prompt reply! . The processor that I mentioned is indeed correct although even I did'nt find out this processor on intel site. I believe your answer will be helpful to me. May be you can help me that the laptop which I am going to purchase is the good one. Please suggest. My basic use for laptop will be to develop applications as I am software engineer and browse internet.

With that said, the T6500 will not** support XP mode on Windows 7, but you might double-check the hardware (CPU) requirements from Microsoft* once Windows 7 is acutally released. Intel should have more information available once the new Microsoft operating system launches.

Apart from the fact that the processor does not appear on the following site

It turns out theres a problem with what the website says

I am sorry, I was mistaken. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

The T6500 does not support VT. I used ark.intel.com as my reference, but as you pointed out, the information turned out to be incorrect. The processor feature information for the T6500 contained within ark.intel.com has been corrected. VT is actually not a feature of the T6500.

The processor identification tool is correctly reporting that VT is not a supported feature of the Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T6500.

Well I DID buy a computer with a T6500 processor. Fortunately I have not broken the seal yet and am able to return it if I want.

Hi All!!

Till 20th July 2009 Intel was saying like its T6500 processor supports Intel Vitualization .By Seeing that only I had purchased Thoshiba Laptop L510 powered by Intel T6500 processor..I was looking for the model which supports virtualization..I was really need of it.. But as of now updated web page Intel T6500 is not Supporting Intel Virtualization.Intel is such a big company , I never thought that , It may cheat people by providing such a false information. Since I had purchased the laptop that it supports the Feature, Now its became no use for me..So regarding this Intel responsibility to replace my Laptop with a laptop powered by Virtualisation enabled processor. or Can I take any Legal action against Intel...I hope many people come up and supports me in this regard..

Please note that at least one other area of the intel.com site still says that the T6500 supports Intel® Virtualization Technology.

The T6500 is returned in the filtered list of processors that, supposedly, support VT. This would seem to conflict with your statement that the T6500 does not support VT.

If you click on the T6500's sSpec# link, in the search results, you see the resulting spec also says that this cpu supports VT:

I hope you can resolve this conflict and have someone review your site to validate all posted processor spec's. Such inaccuracies and inconsistencies make it hard to make informed decisions. Further, if corrections are made, please make special note of them so that customers making purchasing decisions can take the corrected information into account before making purchases.
