So why the hell does windows keep telling me that they don't support it for Windows 11 installation. I run windows 10 Professional at the moment. PLEASE...PLEASE................ CAN ANYBODY HELP !!

Your processor is NOT supported by Windows 11 nor is it on the list of supported processors:

And, you should expect to have problems.

Thanks AlHill for your prompt reply. You may well be correct, but I'm a little puzzled. On the face of it you appear to be using a different compatibility list to the one that Microsoft supply a link to in the rejection notice in the settings update section of my computer, here's the link: (May have to copy & paste) Windows Processor Requirements Windows 10 21H1 Supported Intel Processors | Microsoft Docs Look under Windows 10 2004 or Windows 10 21H1. This is what's confusing me. I'd be grateful for your advice, many thanks.

The list you linked to is a Windows 10 processor compatibility list, not Windows 11 list.

Whatever the case, you should contact Microsoft, as it is their list.

Well AlHill,
I'm even more confused now. The link was supplied to me via the non-compatible rejection notice after using the Microsoft compatible check app. As I understand it the list on their supplied link states the windows 10 installed processors compatible and capable of converting the Windows 10 OS over to Windows 11 OS, is this not so ?

Let me repeat. Your processor is not supported by Windows 11 as is confirmed in the Windows 11 compatibility list. Whatever else is going on is for you to solve with Microsoft. Since your processor is working, this is not an Intel issue or problem. You can go to the Microsoft support forum for Windows 11 and post your question there. But, the answer will still be that your processor is not supported on Windows 11.

You are supported on Windows 10, and it is very unlikely that you need anything from Windows 11. And, on a personal note, I am on Windows 11 and I can tell you for certain that you are not missing anything. I have five other machines that are Windows 11 capable, and I am leaving them on Windows 10 to avoid the pain and discomfort Windows 11 brings.

None of this stops you from running Windows 11. You have read about the one line registry hack that Microsoft published, correct? I am not saying you should use it. But, if you feel you must, be my guest.

https://www.onmsft.com/news/microsoft-back-off-requirements-windows-11

Do not say that I did not warn you.

What am I missing here as Windows 11 says needs this in a CPU:

1 Ghz or faster with 2 or more cores and appearing on our list of approved CPUs. The processor in your PC will be a main determining factor for running Windows 11. The clock speed (the 1 Ghz or faster requirement) and number of cores (2 or more) are inherent to the processor design as it was manufactured and are not considered upgradable components.

Intel's own specs - i7-6700 Kb 3.40Ghz

CPU Specifications
Total Cores 4
Total Threads 8
Max Turbo Frequency 4.00 GHz
Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 Frequency‡ 4.00 GHz
Processor Base Frequency 3.40 GHz
Cache 8 MB Intel® Smart Cache
Bus Speed 8 GT/s
TDP 65 W

Why is this CPU not on the list?

My PC passes on everything except this and it makes no sense unless Intel and Microsoft have got together to force me to buy a new PC.

You have responded to a four-year-old thread.

It is Microsoft's list. They decided that they wanted to only support 8th gen and later processors (with a few 7th gen processors allowed).

The big issue for them is that you have VBS and TPM (or PTT).

But, do not let that stop you from UPGRADING to W11. Read this:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Processors/Processors-TPM-and-Windows-11-24H2/m-p/1647361#M79106

Doc (not an Intel employee or contractor)
[W10 is this generation's XP]
