I am sorry for the issue.

I suggest making sure the Intel® processor is running with the default settings in BIOS and run the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool from the link below.

http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm Processors; What is the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool?

I would be also a good idea to check the power supply voltage levels. Usually this information can be found in BIOS or using the monitoring software tool provided by the motherboard manufacturer.

Cache Hiearchy Error

In the past 24 hours my machine has frozen completely twice. Basically the last screen the computer is on is displayed and nothing works for input and I have to physically power off the machine.

In event viewer I see a bunch of these:

Reported by component: Processor Core

Error Source: Corrected Machine Check

Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error

Processor ID: 2

The processor ID changes at random seemingly. The error also seems to show up even without the freezing now.

I'm running a first gen i7 860. It's about 4 years old now.

Is the processor dying, or is it something else? No hardware changes have been made in some time to the machine.
