I have a brand new HP Pavilion TP01-3xxx, i7-12700. There are multiple audio dropouts while listening to music from a local file, or on an online streaming service. I have updated all available drivers and checked cables and audio devices. All will play fine then randomly dropout/crackle/distort, then resume. This happens if I have only the music player playing or multiple things occuring.

I have heard that Windows 11 systems with hybrid-architecture CPUs utilizing performance and efficiency cores (P-Cores/E-Cores), such as the 12th Gen Intel® Core™ Alder Lake or newer, can lead to audio dropouts and reduced performance.

Is there any resolution? Is there any assistance with this?

I have an i9-12900 with Windows 11, and I have some of the best sound on my PC ever, with local files and online streaming.

However, I do not have an HP machine.

Just saying....

I have been digging into other potential reasons for the error in addition to working with you. First, I'll answer your questions:

1: The dropouts happen ONLY with my Steinberg URmkII Audio Interface. USB headphones, 3.5mm jack headphones, and combo headphones/mic all work fine with zero dropout. Unfortunately, my speakers are ran through the Steinberg URmkII Audio Interface.

2. No error messages

3. All available updates are routinely checked and applied. Currently up to date.

I have learned that there is an issue with the driver and compatibility of my Audio Interface and the Win11/i7-12700. I'm beginning to believe that the issue is not with the i7-12700 at all, but with the device or driver itself. There was a recent Yamaha/Steinberg driver update that did not repair the issue.
I will need to contact Steinberg for more assistance. Thank you.

I have an Intel NUC (I think it's "Skull Canyon" or whatever the glowy blue skull came on) ... it's an 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700H 2.30 GHz processor, ARC graphics, and whatever the generic front and back audio jack involves.

I have Windows 11 on it because it came with that OS.

I have a USB GearHead mic/camera that's good enough for Discord, Teams, and other uses, though the mic acts like it's in a barrel.

The audio out on this thing can be either USB or via the standard 3.5 jack... of which there are one in front and one in the back.

That's the part that has never worked right. The front jack usually works correctly, but for cable management I want to use the back for my old Logitech speakers, which have only the 3.5 jack.

This was working for a while, but something at Discord or Windows 11 changed and my headset(s) suddenly stopped working ... either I couldn't talk, or I couldn't hear on the headset, but the back-side jack feeding my speakers still worked.

Until yesterday. When the Realtek Digital Audio Output device stopped showing up. I tried updating the drivers, but I am allegedly up to date. I tried reinstalling the device, but it DOES NOT EXIST to plug-and-pray. (Yes, I even went through "install legacy devices.")

I'm a bit baffled. I'm hesitantly going to go dig through the BIOS to see if there's anything on these devices there.

But I'd really like my speakers to work, from the back, and without having to do surgery on my NUC.

I'll start with that you have a Serpent Canyon (SN for short) NUC. Support for this device is now provided by Asus, who bought the NUC business from Intel. The Intel Support agents are not going to help you with NUC issues. You need to contact Asus. I know, their support sucks. It is what it is.

Ok, that said, I am willing to help you here. I also have one of these NUCs. To date I have only used a headset with it, so had only exercised the front panel USB Audio device. I just added a pair of speakers (coincidently also Logitech speakers) via the back panel connector and they seem to work just fine. Plugging in the headset, audio output properly changed to the headset and the mic is working just fine (relatively speaking; I have a super cheap HyperX headset that I use for testing).

So I can compare it to mine, I need to see the installation information for your NUC. Please download and run the Intel System Support Utility for Windows. When you start the utility, select Everything and then click on Scan. Once it completes the scan process, click on Next and then Save. Pick a name for the text file to create and click on Save to create it. You can then close the app. Finally, open a response post here. Then, using the Drag and drop here or browse files to attach dialog (below the edit box for the body of your response post), upload and attach this text file to the response post.

...S

Thanks, Scott. I bought the thing from Amazon (about $50 less than direct from intel at the time) and I hadn't heard they sold the business. Asus support is ... different.

I got sound on my speakers but only thru the front panel. Since I use discord, I cannot use the barrel-bottom-sound of the GearHead for the microphone part, and I may end up plugging in the mic by the USB and see what that does. Probably, it will confuse things.

Ok, I am confused. You're saying that, with nothing plugged into the front or via USB, speakers plugged into the back do not work? Or is it that they stop working if you plug in the camera? If the latter, have you tried going to the control panel and manually selecting the speakers as the current output?

The camera (with mic), keyboard, and mouse are all plugged into a powered USB hub via one back-side USB connector.

The network is thru a wired connection.

For no particularly good reason, I also had a second network wired via USB adapter because when I was first bringing this up, the network driver was messed up, but I unplugged it and no problems.

The rear audio jack stopped working. It appears to be ignored by the system now. The front jack works as a headset OR as headphones based on what I tell the system when I plug it in. The difference being, headset includes mic but headphones does not.

At this point I'm not sure what I need to do to get the rear jack to be noticed. Trying to scan for it via device manager fails; it's not seen at all. Which is why I was going to try to get it from the BIOS, but I've not gotten around to that again.
