I have this problem since day 1 when I bought all new hardware. Apps are crashing, games are crashing to the desktop. Even Windows Defender sometimes just quits working.

When I look up the error codes it's almost always 0xc0000005, which should be memory related.

Here are some examples:

Windows Update:

Trying to install Nvidia drivers:

Apex Legends:

EXCEPTION_RECORD: (.exr -1)
ExceptionAddress: 00007ff77794c4ca (r5apex+0x000000000065c4ca)
ExceptionCode: c0000005 (Access violation)
ExceptionFlags: 00000000
NumberParameters: 2
Parameter[0]: 0000000000000000
Parameter[1]: ffffffffffffffff
Attempt to read from address ffffffffffffffff

SYMBOL_NAME: r5apex+65c4ca
MODULE_NAME: r5apex
IMAGE_NAME: r5apex.exe
STACK_COMMAND: ~12s; .ecxr ; kb
FAILURE_BUCKET_ID: INVALID_POINTER_READ_c0000005_r5apex.exe!Unknown
OS_VERSION: 10.0.22621.1
BUILDLAB_STR: ni_release
OSPLATFORM_TYPE: x64
OSNAME: Windows 10
IMAGE_VERSION: 1.0.0.0
FAILURE_ID_HASH: {c3eaffee-836c-ca4c-34e7-0ff097017c97}

I have tried Windows 10 & Windows 11 both in 21H2 and 22H2, it's always the same errors.

So I went ahead and bought all new RAM. Again I got the same issues. Using only one stick didn't help either.

Specs:

i9-13900KF on ASRock Z790 Steel Legend Wifi, BIOS 6.02

4x 16GB G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB F5-6000J3636F16G-TZ5RK (XMP Profile on or off doesnt make difference)

ASUS TUF RTX 3070 Ti GAMING OC

Be Quiet! Straight Power 11 1000W PSU

Is it some random Windows Update, is it the i9-13900KF or is it the motherboard?

Does anyone else have the same problems with this combination of hardware? Unfortunately I don't have a second motherboard to try (yet). Ordered one today and RMA'd the ASRock one, gonna return it as soon as the Gigabyte Aorus arrives.

Nothing out of the ordinary (since a few hours at least). Will test it with the new board too, should be arriving today.

BTW I think I found the culprit:

It has been core-temps on P-Core #2 & #3 - they went up and away above 120°C (!!) - all other temps were about normal on 100% CPU usage.

I limited the short duration power limit to 125W & set LLC to 4 & set core voltage-offset to -100mV

It's staying cool right now, no crashes, no bluescreens, no c0000005 errors.

I thought the Be Quiet Dark Rock TF2 would be a good enough cooling solution, but that seems to be wrong...

From the manufacturers of BeQuiet page: "Immensely high cooling performance with 230W TDP"
Translated = the TF2 at max fan RPM and with best thermal paste can achieve cooling of 230W....probably not in a PC tower, but a room with AC on.

But your CPU, not even overclocked, goes easily to 250W.
I can tell you that normal thermal paste like the MX4 which is my fav, doesn't really cut it, seems that Noctua NT-H2 works slightly better.
All that still is not enough, bcoz regardless what is do, i get about 22*C difference between P and E cores, which clearly states that the cooling performance is not adequate - which is water cooling and two external rather big radiators.

@Steven_Intel
So I went above and beyond the last 2 days.
Bought new thermal grease, put everything onto the new motherboard. Temps are not going beyond 80°C this time.
Still I get the same errors. I reinstalled Windows 11 from scratch, same errors. I reinstalled Windows 10 to rule out it‘s a Win 11 issue, same errors.
I tested both RAM modules with MemTest86+ and also Memtest86, let it go pass like 12 times each. No errors found.

Could it be that my CPU is just broken somehow?

Many thanks for your detailed reply.

I would like to investigate further about this. In order to do so, please download the Intel® SSU https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows-

Open the application and select "Everything", click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel® SSU will take you to the "Summary View". Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View". To save your scan, click on "Next", then "Save". Please attach the file to your reply.

Best regards,

Steven G.

Intel Customer Support Technician.
