@intel_karla, i did confirm the spec code when i ordered the CPU and the box had SR0KY listed. either motherboard couldn't list it correctly as C2 stepping or the CPU was faulty even with the correct spec code.

Newegg is sending a new CPU supposedly ensuring it is C2 stepping.

if it is listed in BIOS as C1 again, i'll just get another motherboard as the asus sabertooth x79 must not be factory setup correctly to handle C2.

thanks for your reply

Intel Core i7-3930K Sandy Bridge-E 3.2GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) LGA 2011 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor BX80619i73930K

i ordered the above CPU from Newegg along with a ASUS Sabertooth x79 MB. i noticed in the BIOS it listed it as "C1 stepping" and not "C2 stepping".

i checked with Intel's site prior to ordering for the sSPEC code of SR0KY to ensure it was C2 stepping and VT-d. that spec code was on the CPU box too, yet the BIOS and ESXi both returned it was a "C1 stepping" CPU.

I RMA'd the CPU and Newegg tells me they can't guarantee a new CPU will have the C2 stepping.

so, where can i buy this CPU and ensure it is indeed an newer version with the C2 stepping/VT-d capabilities?

If you bought the retail boxed version product code BX80619I73930K please contact the Technical Department for warranty assistance; you will need to have the following information listed for warranty validation purposes: http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-030330.htm http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-030330.htm besides a brief explanation of your issue.

If looking to buy the processor instead, the box label needs to indicate the sSpec code SR0KY as this is the C2 stepping. C1 stepping has sSpec SR0H9.

Please confirm the Ordering and Spec information at: http://ark.intel.com/products/63697/Intel-Core-i7-3930K-Processor-12M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz?q=i7-3930K http://ark.intel.com/products/63697/Intel-Core-i7-3930K-Processor-12M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz?q=i7-3930K

You can contact us via chat or phones: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/contactsupport http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/contactsupport
