my pc is a dell optiplex GX 280 small desktop. The stock cpu is an intel pentium 4 520 2.8ghz 1m 800fsb 04A. I recently purchased a pentium 4 660 3.6ghz 2m 800fsb 04B. and when I installed it it said incompatible cpu system halted!. now after much research would I be correct to think that I have to use a cpu that is 04A instead of 04B? perhaps like a pentium 541,550 or 650 these all are 04A because other than that I can think of no other reason why it would not work. I don't know much about computers and really would appreciate if someone can explain this to me! and I have the latest bios updated

Hello Walt,

Based on your system chipset the following processors are the ones listed as compatible:

http://ark.intel.com/products/27733/Intel-915G-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller http://ark.intel.com/products/27733/Intel-915G-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller

To find out whether or not your system can be upgraded with a different processor, both, the BIOS and board will need to support it. For this reason, I would suggest checking with the system builder to confirm if those units are fully compatible with your system.

You may want to call them at 1-877-293-1197

Regards,
