topic [SOLVED] Current/EDP limit throttling on 13900K stock settings in Mobile and Desktop Processors

Hi guys.

I would like to know why I have Current/EDP limit throttling on my processor intermittently and how to fix it, even with stock values, without any modification (Only in Bios ASUS MultiCore Enhancement = Enabled - Remove All limits).

I have an i9-13900K on a Z690 Maximus HERO with 128GB RAM @ 4200MT/s powered by an Asus Thor 1200P. The system has excellent temperatures (Thanks to a Galahad II Trinity Performance) even at 100% load.

I know that Intel says the cause of this is the following, however, I already checked and I have no problem with any of that.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000039154/processors/intel-core-processors.html

1. Processor Core IccMax is set too low in the Intel® XTU.

Processor Core IccMax is set to Ulimited by defaul. I don't consider unlimited to be too low a value.

2. VR (voltage regulator) current limit is set too low in BIOS. Different motherboard OEMs may have different names for this control. Contact your motherboard vendor.

I have checked the BIOS and there are no limitations. The motherboard is a model specifically dedicated to overclocking, so it has no limitations, on the contrary.

3. The motherboard is not able to provide high enough current for the given processor. Pairing a low-power motherboard with a very high Thermal Design Power (TDP) chip can cause current/EDP throttling, even with current limits set to the maximum.

The 13900K is mounted on a Z690 Maximus HERO, which is clearly a powerful motherboard that can match the amount of power needed for the processor.
The motherboard is powered by the two 8-pin cables ATX_12V_1 and ATX_12V_2 so this is not the reason for the failure.

Could someone point me in the right direction to know why the Current/EDP limit throttling on my processor is present and how to fix it?.

I'm thinking that Current/EDP limit throttling is limiting my processor's power and performance capabilities.

Beforehand thank you very much.

Current/EDP limit throttling

Update 10-30-2023 - FIX

I remember that I did not have this problem before, so I started to review what changes I had made to the system that could have triggered this problem. I remembered that 2 weeks ago, I updated the BIOS version from 2703 to 2802.

So I did a bios rollback to the previous version, and voila. The problem disappeared.

Version 2802 of the BIOS for the ROG MAXIMUS Z690 HERO brings a power cap for the processor, which does not allow the processor to run at its maximum power, limiting consumption to a maximum of 170w (This is how the processor demands power, but the motherboard does not provide it, hence the Current/EDP limit throttling was always present), even with AI Overclock, the processor did not take off.
Now with the previous bios, if the processor requires 300w, the motherboard delivers it without problem.

In Cinebench, I went from 29000~30000 points to 38000~39000 points.

Why does ASUS limit the processor? I don't know, but I think it's possibly to weaken the 13900K and be able to show a more significant difference from the 14900K. Who knows . . .

BIOS 2703 - Full Power
