Hi everyone. Have a nice time.

Are i5 and i7 CPUs always more powerful than i3 in processing speed? Is it possible that a new generation i5 cpu is more powerful than an old generation i7 cpu? And basically, why is it that despite the fact that processors are becoming more powerful over the generations of CPUs, the same designation of i3, i5, i7 remains in place?

The processing speed of a CPU depends on several factors, such as the number of cores, the clock frequency, the cache size, and the architecture. Generally speaking, i5 and i7 CPUs have more cores, higher frequencies, and larger caches than i3 CPUs, which gives them an advantage in performance. However, there may be some cases where an i3 CPU can outperform an i5 or i7 CPU, depending on the specific model and the workload.

• Is it possible that a new generation i5 cpu is more powerful than an old generation i7 cpu? Intel releases new generations of CPUs every year or so, which usually bring improvements in performance, efficiency, and features. A new generation i5 CPU may have a newer architecture, a higher frequency, or more cores than an old generation i7 CPU, which can make it more powerful in some scenarios.

• Why is it that despite the fact that processors are becoming more powerful over the generations of CPUs, the same designation of i3, i5, i7 remains in place?

Intel uses these names to help consumers choose the right CPU for their needs and budget, based on the general rule that i3 is for basic tasks, i5 is for mainstream tasks, and i7 is for high-end tasks. However, these names do not reflect the exact specifications or capabilities of each...

Check the following links for your reference. To summarize, it depends on the technology that is included in the processor.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/details/processors/core.html

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/details/processors/core/series-1.html

I know that Intel's intention is good for naming corei3, corei5, corei7. But this naming confuses the customer more. For example, I went to buy a laptop a month ago. The seller told me to buy a laptop with i3-1215u processor, it is new generation and has more cores and cache. I told him how can a corei3 processor be more powerful than a corei5-10210u processor or a corei7-10810u processor, Despite the fact that most of the i3-1215u processor cores are of the efficiency type (which are for light work) not of the performance type (which are for heavy work). He told me that the high series and technology makes naming corei7, 5, 3 have a small and unimportant effect.

I didn't just listen to that seller, I went to cpu comparison sites like the links below and saw the comparisons, and all the statistics in them were better for the 12th generation i3 processor than the tenth generation i7.
https://technical.city/en/cpu/Core-i7-10810U-vs-Core-i3-1215U

https://versus.com/en/intel-core-i3-1215u-vs-intel-core-i5-10210u

I'm very sad that I failed for the many times in choosing a cost-effective processor for my virtualization-related work. I relied on more cash, and the number of cores and higher generation and better processing performance statistics on the sites. Without paying attention to the fact that the main criterion is the number and frequency of performance core .
