I currently have Intel i3-6100, I have a Gigabyte board, which only supports 6th/7th generations. What do you people recommend for a budget of 300?

You need to look up your motherboard on the gigabyte site and check the page for supported processors. Then, you can choose from those.

The list of supported cpus provides the model numbers of those processors that are supported by your board.

It is not rocket science.

No, from the questions you are asking, you need the help of a repair shop. I doubt you have the skills for proper removal of the old processor, installing the new processor, selecting the proper cooling system, applying the thermal paste, updating the bios, etc. I do not want to make recommendations and have you destroy a new processor or your motherboard.

From what I've learned since I started searching for an upgrade a week ago, this is complicated. I've become frustrated because I can't get the answers I need. I've only just learned today that the generation is the first number of the model.

So, even if I do get one, and it ends up ruining my board, I won't blame, because I've become aware of how complicated these things are-Based on both people being jerks and the title of these things being code (gibberish to computer illiterates).
