Hi Intel, yesterday I installed the latest bios of the Gigabyte F10d
Checksum : 8CE6
- Update microcode 0x129 to address sporadic Vcore elevation behavior announced by Intel
- Introduce the "Intel Default Settings" and enabled as default, user needs to disable it first to use GIGABYTE PerfDrive profiles
- Update microcode 0x125 to ensure eTVB operation normally
- Optimize CEP and power settings https://www.gigabyte.com/Press/News/2156 - Processor support and optimization for i9-14900KS
- Update Intel APO (DTT) framework version to 9.0.11405.42569
- Add EZ-OC support for AORUS x XPG co-branding DRAM and there were 3 more BSODs (dump file attached). .The applications declared in the previous post are not installed.
Thanks

Hi, Intel
Last year I bought an i9-13900K PC with the configuration described below. It almost always crashed with frequent BSODs. With the kind advice of Gigabyte technicians I managed to stabilize the PC and, having seen that the greatest number of BSODs occurred with INTELPPM.SYS drivers, and since on the Intel forum, it was recommended to set with regedit Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\intelppm to 4, I did it, finally stabilizing the PC, but this involves the exclusion of the turbo, i.e. only 3 GHZ MAX.
Two days ago I finally saw the Gigabyte beta BIOS update (F10c - 9.68 MB - Jul 15, 2024) with the solution to the problem
...
* Introduce the "Intel Default Settings" and enabled as default, user needs to disable it first to use GIGABYTE PerfDrive profiles
* Update microcode 0x125 to ensure eTVB operation normally
…
this morning I did the update, I put the default value back to 3 in the registry file entry described above, but with no results. Again BSOD, so I was forced to set again with regedit Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\intelppm to 4, I did it, finally stabilizing the PC.

I attach the dump files
Thanks for your patience
Exorib

-Intel Core I9-13900K 24-Core, 3/5.8 Ghz
-Motherboard GB760 DS3H DDR4(rev.1.0)
-2 Ram DDR4 32GBx2 TEAMGROUP-UD4-3200
-SSD M.2 1 TB Samsung 980 Basic Gen 4
-INNO3D GEFORCE GTX 1650 GDDR6 TWIN X2 OC V2
-Alim.

Hello,

What is the CPU power limit of that motherboard? How is that enforced in BIOS? Can you adjust it?

Have you installed HWinfo? If so, can you see any throttling happening?

Perhaps ThrottleStop would have been a better choice in this case.

It can also show if your CPU is temp or power throttling. It also has some configuration options we could try.

https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-throttlestop/

Do the functions for controlling SpeedStep and Turbo work in this app for you?

Those functions could help determining if this is a software or hardware issue.

The question is if the INTELPPM.SYS driver instructs your CPU to boost or halt, and that causes an instant crash.

The dump may still point to the driver in that case.

Have you tried different power profiles in Windows, full performance/low performance?

Disable sleeping etc.?

Boot a live Linux USB. Still crashes?

I downloaded and started ThrottleStop twice, the system crashed immediately (I post the files here). Performance is balanced, screen and PC never suspend. Then I downloaded ubuntu-24.04-desktop-amd64.iso and started from pendrive, used for 15 minutes without problems.

Interesting....

I wonder if Ubuntu has turbo enabled. Do you have turbostat or a similar tool installed to check that?

Did you try ThrottleStop after first deactivating intelppm?

It would be good to test the hypothesis that the board might not provide enough stable current to handle turbo.

Perhaps trying to limit the maximum power doesn't work that well. I remember reading about 14th gen CPUs getting unstable when only power limit restricted.

I think CEP was developed to avoid that kind of instability.

Did you find your power limit in HWinfo?

Dear Intel,
I apologize for not answering earlier, but due to covid I have not been well and I am still not well. Explain to me in detail how I should do the tests with hwinfo and ThrottleStop. I add that over the course of the year I have isolated three applications that caused and cause BSODs:
1. B5000 Certified 26.03 MB Win XP, Win 7, Win 8
https://www.avision.com/en/download/?model=FB5000
2. WMWare Workstation
https://blogs.vmware.com/workstation/2024/05/vmware-workstation-pro-now-available-free-for-personal-use.html
3. Anydesk
https://anydesk.com/it/downloads/windows
The same applications work well with all the other PCs I have and on this one only by setting with regedit Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\intelppm to 4, but as I said before, inteppm.sys appears disabled in device manager and the microprocessor does not go beyond 3 Ghz

Thanks
