Slow POST times after microcode update?

Hi:

I have an Asus TUF Gaming z690 WiFi D4 based motherboard with a 13900K processor (128GB 3600 MHz ram, 2TB SSD).

After the microcode update, my POST times are extremely slow. According to Task Manager, my BIOS times are now 41 seconds(!) from a previous 14-15 seconds.

Presenting the POST screen is much now slower than before. These long boot times almost remind me of HDD speeds of yesterday.

Asus change logs to 0x129 code is simply a microcode update. No other features added.

Anyone else has this issue?

Normally with ASUS BIOS updates there is an option to press F5 to load BIOS defaults. Not doing so can cause issues. Pressing F5 can also causes issues. Specifically the Advanced->Boot->Secure Boot->OS Type BIOS setting.. This defaults to Other OS but the alternative option here is Windows UEFI Mode. So if it was set to UEFI mode and was changed to Other OS that might be worth checking.

Thanks for answering ... It was already set and is to Windows UEFI mode. Most of the delay in POST happens before the "Press F2 or Delete button to get into Bios" message.

Yeah, I have an Asus ROG Strix Z790-H and I am at BIOS version 2602 and the boot up time is looooooong. It wasn't like this before the microcode update, specifically the 0x125 update. It's been doing this since 0x129 and now I'm at 0x12B and it is still the same.

I am running 0x129 and Task Manager states my BIOS time as 10.1 seconds.

Possible ideas. You may have already set these but I will go over them anyway.

You have a WiFi board. If you are not using the wired LAN port it might be worth setting the BIOS Advanced Mode->Advanced->Onboard Devices Configuration->LAN Controller to Disabled. I think it defaults to Enabled after a BIOS update.

You are running DDR4 so nothing to do with DDR5 memory training.

Might be graphics configuration. As you have a K processor are you using the iGPU or not. If not maybe set Advanced Mode->Advanced->System Agent (SA) Configuration->Graphics Configuration->Primary Display to PEG Slot rather than Auto. The other linked setting is IGPU Multi-Monitor that should be set to Disabled by default.

Under Advanced Mode->Tool there is ASUS Armoury Crate->Download and Install ARMOURY CRATE app which is set to Enabled by Default. Set this to Disabled.
