Thanks for answering.
When my PL1 value is set to 125w I don't get any stability issue and max temperature is 71 celsius. From my understanding, as long as the CPU is not exceeding 99 celsius I shouldn't be worried about it being damaged, am I correct?

Hello Tsmoothoperator,

Thank you for posting in the Intel Community!

I recommend setting PL1 and PL2 according to the values specified in the Intel® Core™ Processors Technical Resources datasheet, specifically on pages 77 and 99.

If you choose to increase the PL1 and PL2 values beyond the recommended levels, you may see a performance boost. However, this can also lead to potential issues such as system crashes, random shutdowns, and blue screens (BSOD).

Conversely, if you set the PL1 and PL2 values lower than those recommended in the datasheet, the performance will vary based on the values you have set. Furthermore, it's important to monitor the temperatures and system stability. If you notice any instability or excessive temperatures, it might be best to revert to the default settings or slightly lower the power limit.

Best regards,

Norman S.

Intel Customer Support Engineer

Hello Tsmoothoperator,

Typically, modern CPUs are built to manage temperatures up to approximately 100°C before they begin throttling to avoid damage. Given that your CPU's maximum temperature is 100°C, it remains within the safe operating range. For further information, you may refer to the following articles:

What Is the Maximum Operating Temperature of My Intel® Processor?

Information about Temperature for Intel® Processors

Best regards,

Norman S.

Intel Customer Support Engineer

Hello Tsmoothoperator,

It's wonderful to hear that you're keeping an eye on your CPU temperature and stability! Maintaining your CPU below 99°C and ensuring there are no stability issues is essential for both performance and longevity. If the current PL1 value is giving you better performance without causing overheating or instability, it seems like a sensible approach.

However, please continue to monitor the temperatures and system behavior, as prolonged high temperatures can potentially impact the lifespan of your CPU.

With that said, I will close this inquiry. If you need further assistance, please submit a new question, as this thread will no longer be monitored. Thank you!

Best regards,

Norman S.

Intel Customer Support Engineer
