Hi Azus

Thank you for posting in the Intel Communities Support. We will be more than glad to assist you with this matter.

When a processor undergoes a stress test or benchmark, it is exposed to workloads that push its performance and thermal capacity to the limits. The primary objective of these tests is to assess the processor's stability and performance under extreme conditions, which is why the processor often reaches its maximum frequency. Conversely, during gaming, the processor may downclock due to thermal management and power constraints. Processor performance is dynamically adjusted based on the workload and thermal conditions.

Here are some common reasons why this might happen.

Thermal Throttling:

If the processor reaches a certain temperature threshold, it will automatically reduce its clock speed to prevent overheating. This is a protective measure to ensure the longevity of the processor.

Power Limits:

The processor may be hitting its power limits, which can cause it to reduce its frequency. This is often managed by the system's power settings or BIOS configurations.

Background Processes:

Other applications running in the background can also affect the available power and thermal headroom for the processor, leading to downclocking.

Game Optimization:

Some games may not require the full clock speed of the processor, and the system may downclock to save power and reduce heat output.

Please let us know if there is any question or issue with regards to your 14900K

Best regards,

Richard C.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Hello I’m having an issue with my brand new 14900k. Everything works fine benchmarks are fine temps are more or less fine but as soon as I run a game it down clocks from 5700 to 4500 on every game

Hello, thanks for the reply but I think that it’s just the cpu that I got is unstable. I’ve got several crashes my system has become all choppy when I game some games I get a out of memory error I’ve been trying to get it stable but can’t seem to do it correctly

Hi Azus

I understand how frustrating it can be to experience frequent crashes, especially during gaming. To help investigate your issue further, I would like to ask a few more questions to narrow down the problem:

Do the crashes occur only with specific games, or do they also happen with other software?

Were there any recent changes to your system before the issue started?

Have you tried any troubleshooting steps already?

Is there any visible physical damage to the processor?

Have you overclocked the processor?

Have you enabled the Intel default settings in your BIOS?

Additionally, please provide the system specifications of your computer to help isolate the issue:

Make and Model of the Motherboard:

BIOS Version:

Power Supply Unit (PSU):

RAM:

GPU (if available)

Looking forward to your response

Best regards,

Richard C.

Intel Customer Support Technician
