The Intel Extreme Tuning Utility has a few glitches. I have to change one setting hit apply then it seems like the software is then actually making the system changes, so then I move the setting back to the saved setting, but this is annoying to have to do every time. Also it does not automatically come up on startup all the time. Also I will download updated Intel drivers using the Intel Driver Support Utility and sometimes the drivers will make the Extreme Tuning Utility not able to work.

Hello GSchwendW,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

Issue 1: Settings Not Applying Correctly

The behavior you're experiencing, where you have to change a setting and apply it before it takes effect, could be due to a few reasons:

1) Software Glitch: Sometimes, software updates or bugs can cause such issues. Ensure you have the latest version of XTU installed.

2) Driver Conflicts: As you mentioned, driver updates can sometimes interfere with XTU. This might be due to compatibility issues between the new drivers and the XTU version you are using.

To further check the possible root cause and properly isolate the issue, please help share your system configuration. This could be possible by downloading the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* software. When the download is complete, launch SSU.exe.

Scan: Check the box Everything.

Click Scan.

Review: When finished scanning, click Next.

Click Save (.txt).

Attach the log file as you reply.

Issue 2: XTU Not Starting on Boot

Since the XTU does not start automatically on boot, you can try the following:

1) Startup Settings: Check if XTU is set to start with Windows. You can do this by opening the Task Manager, navigating to the Startup tab, and ensuring XTU is enabled.

2) Reinstallation: Sometimes, reinstalling the software can resolve startup issues.

Try these two steps first.

Uninstall the Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility.

Use Windows* Apps > Installed apps.

Search for Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility.

Click uninstall.

Open the Task Manager.

Check under Processes for XtuService.

If found, click End Task.

If the issue persists, read the note below and proceed to the steps below to completely remove the Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility.

Note: Please be aware that other applications may depend on XtuService, and their presence on the system may be the reason that XtuService is still installed after XTU is uninstalled. Deleting XtuService in this case may cause other programs to stop working.

Open Windows* Command Prompt as an admin (Run as administrator) and enter: "sc delete XTU3SERVICE".

Delete any folder named Intel® XTU from these locations: C:\Program Files\Intel and C:\ProgramData\Intel. Notice that ProgramData folder may be hidden.

Delete the folder named Intel Telemetry under C:\ProgramData.

You may want to reboot your system (optional).

Download and install the Intel® XTU application.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.

Intel Customer Support Technician

Honestly I should not have to do this Micky Mouse business, nor do I feel comfortable doing it. The uninstall software should take care of this. I am sure Intel is more than capable they can do that.. I am not going to run through this again. Fix your software to do the right thing. Thank you.
